10x20 vs 10x30: Which Parking Space Fits Your Boat, Trailer or Box Truck?

Most people looking for trailer parking in Hollywood, FL start with the same question: what size space do I actually need? Pick too small and your trailer doesn't fit. Pay for too much and you're leaving money on the lot every month.

At our Hollywood lot at 1724 Buchanan St, you choose between two spaces: 10x20 ft for $250 a month and 10x30 ft for $325 a month. Both are month-to-month. Both sit on a gated, camera-monitored, paved lot with 24-hour access. The only real difference is how much room you get. Here's how to decide.

What the Numbers Actually Mean

A 10x20 space is 10 feet wide and 20 feet long. A 10x30 space is the same width but 10 feet longer. That extra 10 feet is the whole decision.

Width rarely surprises anyone. Ten feet covers a standard trailer, a passenger car, a work van or a box truck with room to open the doors. Length is where people get caught. The space has to hold the whole vehicle plus the tongue, the hitch, or the overhang - not just the boxy part you're picturing in your head.

Most owners walk around their trailer once with a tape measure. Do the same thing before you reserve. Measure bumper to hitch, then add a couple of feet of breathing room so you can line up and pull out without scraping a neighbor.

What Fits in a 10x20

A 10x20 handles more than you'd think:

  • Passenger cars, SUVs and pickup trucks
  • Standard utility and cargo trailers up to about 18-20 feet
  • Single-axle and tandem boat trailers with a smaller boat
  • Most single work vans and standard pickup trucks

The 10x20 is the right call when your trailer fits comfortably with a little space at the tongue and you just need a secure, legal place to park it. If your HOA or a city code officer has told you the trailer can't stay in the driveway, this is usually the fix.

What Fits in a 10x30

The 10x30 is built for the oversized stuff:

  • Larger box trucks and commercial trucks
  • RVs and campers, including longer motorhomes
  • Boats on trailers with a long tongue or a bigger hull
  • Work trucks pulling utility trailers
  • Any vehicle where you want real swing room to hitch up

For a lot of box truck and RV owners, the 10x30 isn't a luxury. It's the only size where the vehicle parks without hanging into the aisle.

The Trailer Math Most People Miss

Trailer length is measured from the front of the coupler to the rear of the frame or the end of the bunks - not the length of the deck. A "20-foot boat" often rides on a trailer that's several feet longer once you count the tongue and the motor hanging off the back.

Then add maneuvering room. You want enough length to back in and pull out without a tight turn, and enough width to open doors and walk the length of the trailer. A 10x20 that fits your trailer on paper can still feel cramped if you're threading it in at an angle every time.

If you're within a foot or two of the space's limit, take the 10x30. The extra $75 a month buys you a spot you can use quickly instead of one you fight with every visit.

Box Trucks, Work Vans and RVs

South Florida airports and garages can't take oversized vehicles, and many neighborhood lots can't either. Our Hollywood location is the lot built for box trucks, commercial trucks, work vans and RVs - and boats and trailers are welcome too. It's also about 10 minutes from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) and roughly 15 minutes from Port Everglades, with 24-hour access so you're not locked into a gate schedule.

There's no shuttle. Travelers drive themselves or take a rideshare to the terminal, which keeps your cost predictable. Daily parking is $20 a day when you just need a few days, and monthly parking is the better deal once you're past a week or two.

Why Month-to-Month Beats a Long-Term Contract

Both spaces are month-to-month with 30 days' notice. You're not signing away a year of parking for a boat you might sell or a truck assignment that might change. Reserve online in minutes, and adjust as your needs do.

Sales tax applies, and the rate is the rate - $250 for a 10x20, $325 for a 10x30. No guesswork.

How to Choose in 30 Seconds

  • Measuring under about 18 feet with room to spare? Take the 10x20 at $250.
  • Big boat, long tongue, box truck or RV? Take the 10x30 at $325.
  • Not sure whether your trailer fits? Measure bumper to hitch and add two feet.

If you're parking in Riviera Beach at 3551 Avenue E instead, that lot handles boats on trailers, utility and cargo trailers and passenger vehicles only - no trucks and no RVs - with a gate open 5 AM to 8 PM. Trucks, RVs and box trucks belong at Hollywood.
